Another month of Wine & Dine Half Marathon training is coming to an end! Check out the switches I’m making in the next four weeks.
I can’t believe tomorrow is the last day of August! Truthfully, I don’t mind too much. I’m looking forward to Labor Day Weekend and the passing time means we’re getting closer to fall weather! I’ve been getting in fall-like runs lately and it’s SUCH a nice break from the heat. Speaking of running, I recently laid out my training plan for September, and I’m sharing it today!
August has been a crazy month, but it was a lot more successful than I thought it would be. I went back to work from summer break and school started midway through the month. August was a month of transitioning into a new job and a new routine and that required a lot of flexibility.

What did I learn? I learned (or rather was reminded) that I really don’t like running in the afternoons. Especially in August. In Texas. But at the same time, I don’t like running at 4 a.m. due to potential safety issues. It’s just a sacrifice I’m making, but I’m the heat will correlate to faster times once race day comes around. I also learned that it may be time to switch up my strength game a little bit! Additionally, I’ll be working towards moving away from prescribed run/walk intervals to running and taking walk breaks only when necessary.

What am I changing? Not too much really. The biggest change will be that on weeks I have speed work I’ll take my rest day on Thursday instead of Friday. Saving my rest day for the end of the work week hasn’t been as tough of an adjustment as I expected, but I really enjoy sleeping in on Thursdays. It’s completely mental in the fact that when I wake up on Wednesday mornings I think, “Oh, I get to sleep in tomorrow!” and I look forward to it all day. Also… #WineNotWednesday.😜 I stay away from the alchy on nights I have an early wake-up! The other changes I make will be in regard to home and school so I can ensure I’m still doing my jobs as a wife and teacher to the best of my ability. Sometimes that’s hard because I feel like my brain is all running, all Disney, all the time. Anyone else?!
Another kind of crazy and terrifying thing is that I’ll be taken beyond my race distance this month. I’ve never run farther than the 13.1, so that’s a little scary to me. I’m following a Jeff Galloway plan, so there must be a method to his madness. Has anyone tried this?
Question: Have you ever run the Wine & Dine Half Marathon or any other Run Disney race?
I’m linking up for Wild Workout Wednesday with Annmarie, Jen, and Nicole! If you’re super bored, you can also catch up on my training journey by way of week by week recaps. 😉

Running in the afternoon in Texas sounds like my nightmare! I wake up here at 4 AM and it doesn’t even get nearly as hot 😛

It is awful most days, haha. I just keep praying that running in the heat will make me faster when the weather cools off!

I ran the Disney half a few years ago. My husband had signed us up (he did the Goofy) and was supposed to document our times for our corrals…but he forgot. So we ended up in the VERY LAST corral! Behind the walkers! UGH. It made the race slow and long as we weaved people. I tell people it was a running event and not a race as it was my worst time ever. It was fun but I doubt I’ll do another Disney race. I hope yours is so fun! Good luck! It’s been hot here in Florida too!
Jessica says
Oh my, that would be disastrous!! I did not want that to happen so I submitted my proof of time extra early! I’m hoping I get into a decent corral!
