Week 9 of half marathon training and the third week of the school brought some challenges with it. It was busy from the get-go, but also presented me with my first head cold of the school year! I rearranged my schedule and took some days off to try and cope. I tried to listen to my body as best I could!
Sunday, 8/27/17:
Yoga with Adriene’s Yoga for Tired Legs, as well as Hips and Core Vinyasa felt great after my speed work from the previous day!
Monday, 8/28/17:
4.3 Miles running in the early morning on the treadmill. We had a staff meeting that afternoon so a run later in the day wasn’t going to happen.
Total body HIIT on Tuesday morning! It was short and sweet. My school had Open House that evening and I went home that night exhausted.
Wednesday, 8/30/17:
AM: Upper body, PM: 3 miles. Most of the day Wednesday I could feel myself starting to feel pretty puny and I started praying I wasn’t sick. I forced myself to go out for my run Wednesday afternoon because I was afraid I wouldn’t have another opportunity to get it in. It was a very difficult run, but I was able to cross it off the list in any case.
Rest day. I gave myself an extra two hours of sleep that morning and then was in bed asleep by 8:30 p.m. First sickness of the school year is never fun!
Friday, 9/1/17:
I had planned to try and get up early Friday morning to workout, but I forgot to set my alarm so I got another morning of sleeping in. I came to appreciate that later in the day when I realized how tired I still was. After school I got in a traditional leg day and it was great, but my legs fatigued quickly and I’m still sore.
Saturday, 9/2/17:
Rest day. We travelled home for my nephew’s birthday party early in the day, so any workout I got was just spending time with family!
Because I was feeling crappy for a good part of the week (and because we were heading out of town), I bumped my 11 mile long run from yesterday to today. In fact, I should be wrapping up right around the time this post goes live, so send all your good vibes this way!
If you missed anything on the blog this week, get caught up now! On Monday, I shared an interview with the creator of the women’s accessories company, All That It Seams, and that’s one of my favorite blogs I’ve ever posted! Wednesday brought my training plan for Septembermy training plan for September, and Friday I shared my September goals. What happened on your blog this week?
Question: How do you deal with not running or working out when you’re sick?
I’m linking up with HoHo Runs and Mississippi Piddlin for Weekly Wrap! This post is also linked up with Annmarie, Jen, and Nicole for Wild Workout Wednesday!

When I’m sick all I want to do is sleep so I usually don’t mind missing my workouts. I don’t know what your thoughts are on essential oils but I bought the on guard roller ball from DoTerra last year and I didn’t get sick at all over the winter. I worked in a pediatric hospital at the time so I think that is the ultimate testimony to how well it works lol.
This week on my blog I announced that I set a date to launch my new biz. All the nerves!

I need to get some essential oils! A teacher friend shared some with me a few years ago and I definitely felt the benefits.

If I”m not feeling well, I usually will skip a workout or scale it down a notch. When my form is compromised (due to illness, fatigue, etc.) I know I’m just a sneeze away from injuring myself LOL
Jessica says
That’s a good way to look at it. Sometimes my pride gets in the way and I forget that lol

I am feeling better! Thank you so much!!
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
I usually rest or do really low impact when I’m sick. I hope you’re feeling better!
Jessica says
Thank you! I’m feeling much better now!

Is it weird that your leg day makes me want to do a crazy leg workout? It’s been a while since I’ve been that sore 😛
Jessica says
Oh my goodness, I was MISERABLE! But you’re right — there’s something rewarding about being so sore you can hardly move, haha.
