Another week has come and gone! Check out my week in workouts and life through last week’s workouts!
Another week, another 5K fun run! After last weekend’s Jingle Bell Run, I was looking forward to yesterday’s Ugly Christmas Sweater Run! Skip to the end for a brief race recap, or read through to see everything else I was up to in the last seven days.
Sunday, 12/3/17:
Slow mornings seem to be the name of the game here lately. Around 11:00 I stretched it out with some yoga with the Nike Training Club app. It was my first time using the app! Does anyone else use NTC? What are your thoughts?
Monday, 12/4/17:
I started the week with glute day! With some plyometrics, bridges, and good mornings, I was toast by the end and still sore Wednesday morning. I’ve really been enjoying my “heavier” leg days lately. I feel like they make me a faster runner. I haven’t been doing a whole lot of running, but I’m maintaining my fast-for-me paces well when I am running.

Tuesday was shoulders and chest. It was a much shorter workout than I’m accustomed to (like 20 minutes total), but I didn’t mind wrapping up early. I had more than enough time that morning to get breakfast ready, do my Bible study, and relax before I had to tackle the day.
Wednesday, 12/6/17:
Wednesday was filled with cardio and core work! I pretty much always need to strengthen my core, so I try to take it with grace when it’s thrown my direction. (But I still hate planks.)
Thursday, 12/7/17:
Rest day.

Friday, 12/8/17:
Biceps and triceps for Flex Friday! At a cursory glance, I thought it was going to be an easy workout. However, by the middle of the third circuit I had to drop my weights and see it through with something lighter. I definitely had noodle arms when it was all said and done. Secretly, I love that. Anyone else?
Saturday, 12/9/17:
I’d like to say we slept in on Saturday morning, but we were awake by 6:30. The Ugly Christmas Sweater Run was starting at 11:00 with packet pick-up at 9:30, so I just hung out on the couch with my husband until about 9:15. I left the house about 9:50 for my last race of 2017!
I don’t know why packet pick-up was so early (or maybe why I thought I had to be there so early?). I got my bib and my shirt and then ended up sitting in the car talking to my mom on the phone for 20 minutes. There were very few people in attendance, so there were no issues with starting the race on time. They let us go right on time and we were off!
This course wasn’t nearly as exciting as last week’s course. A) It was day time so there were certainly no Christmas lights. And B) There just wasn’t much to look at. The museum that hosted the race is beautiful, but they don’t have 3 miles of property in the area, so were running through the downtown neighborhoods. The course was easy — almost a big loop with a few turns and cut backs — so that was nice.
I was a little bit slower than last week, but again, I just wanted to have fun! With completely different conditions and a lot of wind, it was still a successful run. Also worth mentioning, it definitely wasn’t sweater weather. It was 60-something degrees. Darn you, Texas! Anyway, after some water and a cookie, I went home to relax for the rest of the day.
On the blog last week, some fun stuff went down! Monday, I shared a White Elephant Gift Guide, perfect for your family, friend group, or work White Elephant Gift Exchange! Wednesday, I updated everyone with the December edition of “Currently” and Friday, I shared some Fall Favorites that have carried me through this season! Coming up this week, I’m sharing more fun gift guides and a HUGE giveaway to everyone’s favorite place (*cough*Target*cough*)! Be sure to stop by tomorrow for directions on how to enter!
Question: Did you run or race this weekend?
I’m linking up with TriciaTricia and Holly for Weekly Wrap!

I also raced this weekend and it definitely was not in the 60s. That would have been nice if it was. I’m jealous of your easy course, ours was not. There was a huge hill half way through. Great on your race.

Strength training will definitely make you faster. Nice job! Here in Chicago it’s definitely sweater weather – I opted for an ugly xmas sweater bar crawl instead of a run haha

I didn’t race this weekend but I enjoyed seeing all the photos from everyone that took part in fun holiday themed races! This time of the year is my favorite for racing because the outfits are always super festive!

You’re doing a great job with your cross training! That is def an inspiration to me right now.
I decided to skip the race in my area this weekend. It was this morning and the temps were around 25 degrees….no thanks! lol

My races are done for 2017…but I still plan on some training runs in festive holiday gear 😉 Cute t-shirt with the cross-stitch penguins!

I have not tried the NTC app (really didn’t know anything about it!). By the way, I think your “ugly sweater” is cute! Mickey is always a great choice. I did race on the Gulf Coast for the 2nd weekend in a row. Last week 72. This week 32. I prefer the latter. Thanks for linking!
