Christmas Eve Gift! *BOOM* Now everyone reading owes me a gift. 😉
Just kidding, y’all. I’ll explain this strange game to you in case you’re unfamiliar with the tradition of “Christmas Eve Gift”. Each Christmas Eve, the goal is to say the phrase “Christmas Eve Gift!” to anyone you come into contact with before they say it to you. If you beat them to it, you can obtain one of their Christmas gifts. This little game, introduced to me by my grandfather who I miss dearly, has been played in my family for I-can’t-even-tell-you-how-long — my 28 years and then some, for sure. I remember Christmas Eves as a child when we would open the door to Pop and Nanny’s house and the first words from his mouth were not “Hi,” or “Hello,” but “Christmas Eve Gift!” Of course, it was all in good fun and no gifts were stolen from anyone. Through the years this game has lived on and we’ve been known to text the phrase to each other just for a smile and a laugh, always followed by “Love you!” You can read more about “Christmas Eve Gift” here.
Unrelated to Christmas Eve and/or gifts, it’s time for my weekly training recap. Click through to get caught up and tell me how you stayed active this last week before Christmas!
Sunday, 12/17:17:
Sunday was yoga day as usual! I downloaded a flow from the Nike Training Club and got to work. It was pretty gentle, but I was constantly moving — my kind of yoga! I got in a little bit of extra activity that day with a trip to the grocery store and then a walk around the neighborhood with hubs and Pippa. When we got back, my husband made breakfast for dinner and it was oh-so good!
Monday, 12/18/17:
Monday was leg day and it was a killer!! I am extremely quad-dominant, so I always like to include deadlifts in my workouts. However, I’m learning I also need to take extra care to activate my glutes prior to lower body workouts. What are your favorite glute activation exercises? Send them my way!
Tuesday, 12/19/17:
Tuesday’s workout was completed in a bit of a rush (but that’s only because I was being lazy about getting started). I did a shoulder circuit and a short body weight cardio before heading out the door to get my hair cut! One of the best things about being on Christmas break is definitely being able to get your hair cut at 9 a.m. on a Tuesday.
After stopping by the post office to mail some thank you notes and a Christmas gift, I was back home by 10:00. I sat on the couch for just about the rest of the day binge watching The Crown.

Husband’s Christmas vacation started. 🙂 We slept in and laid around drinking coffee for most of the morning. Shortly before noon I got moving with an upper body/abs/cardio circuit that had me huffing and puffing. Or maybe that was due to the Christmas carols I was singing to Pippa while pumping iron.🤷🏻♀️I’ll never know.
Thursday, 12/21/17:
Thursday was a fun, but fast day! After a pretty quick chest/back/abs workout, we got ready and headed out to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi. My husband is a Star Wars lover and until two years ago I hadn’t seen any of them. We binged the first six movies and now I’m all caught up! I have to say, I totally get the appeal.
Friday, 12/22/17:
I had two slices of pizza for breakfast… Oops. But then I “worked it off” with a lower body and cardio workout before making two sopapilla cheesecakes and two batches of dip to bring to our family Christmas meals. That afternoon, we headed out of town to get all the fun started!

Rest day. We took off early for a family Christmas in Lubbock only to turn around and head back to Smalltown USA for another family Christmas that evening! Whew, talk about exhausting!

I haven’t heard of the Christmas Eve Gift tradition but I will definitely be trying it out on my family next year lol
Fun fact – I’ve never seen any of the Star Wars movies. I feel like I’m the only person in the country that hasn’t seen at least one of the movies, lol.
Congrats on a great week of workouts and Merry Christmas!

Never heard of the Christmas Ever Gift game…I have heard of Star Wars, though LOL I’ve been reacquainted with the three original movies, and have been introduced to “Episode 1.” Ugh…totally out of my realm, but the kids are helping my brain comprehend the story.
