Happy New Years Eve, y’all! And Happy 29th Birthday to me. On this last day of the year I’m looking back over the last week and all the ways I got moving and grooving: strength, running, and then some! Check it out and let me know how you stayed active last week!
Sunday, 12/24/17:
Something is always better than nothing, so I tried to get my heart rate up with a quick body weight workout. I had thought about a run, but with a “feels like 21” temp outside, I decided against it.
Monday, 12/25/17:
Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope you all had a lovely holiday with your families. My husband had to work Tuesday morning, so we headed home Monday afternoon. After unpacking, I fit in another body weight workout before relaxing for the rest of the evening.

PUSH day! I pounded out shoulders/chest/triceps with lots of push-ups, tricep kickbacks and extensions, and shoulder presses. I followed it up with two miles on the treadmill. January’s approach has me looking forward to running more regularly again!
Wednesday, 12/27/17:
Wednesday, oh Wednesday. Short version: I got in a short speed workout (3×400) and legs and abs. Squats, deadlifts, hamstring curls, crunches, all the good stuff. Long version: My day started at 2 a.m. with poor Pippa waking us up. She kept shaking her head and jingling her tags and I could tell something was bothering her. After letting her outside to potty I did a quick examination and discovered she was bleeding from inside one of her ears. Hubby and I did our best to clean it up, but the blood just kept coming. I loaded her up in the car and drove to the nearest 24-hour vet, 20 minutes away in the next town. After some poking and prodding and washing out, they realized she had a mass just outside her ear canal that had ruptured. They sedated her so they could cut it out and sent us home just before 5 a.m. with some amoxicillin. I tried to encourage her to rest as much as possible the rest of the day, but it was hard on both of us. I’m so glad I didn’t have to go to work. My husband, on the other hand, was dragging through his work day.

Thursday, 12/28/17:
Thursday was a much better day than Wednesday. I did a total body interval workout followed by some ab work that was so stinking hard. I can rock 30-second intervals like a boss, but 60-second intervals kick my butt.
Friday, 12/29/17:
About 15 minutes of yoga was as good as it got for the day. I couldn’t shake the tiredness and I sat on the couch watching old CSI episodes until 10:45. I started a yoga workout around 11:00 and at 11:15, my husband walked in the door with lunch and I was like, “Ok, I’m done now.” That mindset is going to need to change come Tuesday morning!

It still took me forever to get moving Saturday morning (Where is my motivation??), but I did. My new Brooks Pure Cadence 6 came in the day before, so of course I had to break them in. Three miles on the treadmill and a back/biceps workout fit the bill.
I took some time off from blogging last week, but I’ve got plenty of content for you to fill your time with! Two weeks ago I posted some great information on the Runner’s Fit & Fueled Course and my 2017 Year in Review post! Devin also guest posted on the blog with some good-to-ask questions regarding triathlon training. Be sure to check out Is Triathlon Training For You? when you have the time! Wishing you all the very best in 2018! <3
Question: How was your Christmas? Tell me all about it!

I also have been drinking a lot of water this week to make up for my consumption of alcoholic beverages on Christmas Eve and Christmas, lol.
I hope those Brooks sneakers workout for you – I really love the colors and the design, super cute!

So sorry to hear about Pippa! That must have been so scary. I hope she is doing much better now.

Poor Pippa! I’m glad you were able to get into the vet quickly. I hope she feels better now. I can certainly appreciate a shoe with a wider toe box! Let me know how you like the Brooks Cadence. I’ve only tried their Ravena’s and was not a fan. Happy New Year and thanks for linking!

Happy birthday!
Poor Pippa & poor you — I assume she’s back to normal now? I’ve been very lucky, I’ve only ended up at the emergency vet twice in our 32 years of marriage, and luckily it’s relatively close to us. It’s always tiring though.
Feels like 21; that would be a heat wave hear — we haven’t seen 20s in days! And right now we won’t even seen teens.

I have those exact same Brooks shoes!! I’m about to retire mine though because I’ve packed in a ton of miles on them! They’re really a great lightweight shoe for sure! I’ve always been a huge fan of the Pure Flows!! Hopefully you love them!!

I hope Pippa is OK now. It’s never fun when the furbaby doesn’t feel well. My Christmas was good and relaxing, but it’s back to reality again 🙁

OH, I hope Pippa is doing much better! That sounds scary ;-(

Sorry to hear about Pippa! Glad she is doing better! I have never tried the Cadence but have tried the Pure Flow and thought they were very narrow. Maybe I should try those Cadence out. I love the Launches.
