The third week of training for the Energy City Half Marathon has come to an end. Check out the lessons learned and how I’m moving forward.

If you’re a regular reader or social media follow-alonger probably already know this, but it’s been a crazy, crazy week! I would really like to say a GIANT THANK YOU to anyone who reached out regarding my dad’s accident. The healing that’s already taken place is nothing short of miraculous and I know it’s due to all the prayers and good thoughts being sent our way! So thank you. 🙂
It was a short week, but it felt long and I tried to stick to my typical routine as closely as I could. I got in some strength, some stretching, and tried to make up for some miles I missed in my training last week.
Sunday, 1/14/18:
It’s been years since I’ve practiced yoga in a studio, so on a whim I signed up for a Sunday afternoon class. It was a great sweat and a great stretch, especially after the emotional mess the day before was. I’m thinking I might buy a package and make it a regular part of my routine. I love yoga at home, but the benefits of an instructor right next to you coaching you on your breath are undeniable.
Monday, 1/15/18:
I had the day off for MLK Day and what a blessing that was. I saw my husband off for work at his regular time and then got moving. I hit the Tone It Up daily workout, which was a lot of core and upper body. Afterward, I headed out the door for 3 miles. It was COLD and I don’t know why I didn’t consider this before I left. My ears were just about froze by the time I returned home. Ha! Later that morning, I headed to Lubbock to visit my dad. I’m so thankful I had the day off to be able to do that!

Tuesday, 1/16/18:
AM: Booty + HIIT + the Tone It Up daily workout. I’m trying to work in a lot of hip strengthening exercises in the hopes of improving my running.
PM: I hit three treadmill miles after school. It took me a while to get into the groove, but about 1.75 my aunt called to say my dad was being discharged! Feeling as if a literal weight had been lifted, I practically flew through the last mile or so.
Wednesday, 1/17/18:
AM: Wednesday morning I completed the Tone It Up daily workout, plus some extra abs and arms work. I was left with a serious bicep pump afterwards, so I definitely couldn’t complain. 😀 I’ve been following the Tone It Up Love Your Body challenge and I’m surprised by how much I’ve enjoyed it. I think all the core work they recommend is paying off too.
PM: The afternoon held 6×400 at the end of which I covered the distance of about 2.25 miles.
Thursday, 1/18/18:
Rest day.

Friday, 1/19/18:
Friday was a total body day with a super short tabata and some interval-based supersets. It set the tone for a healthful Friday, though we did order pizza to round out the week. #BALANCE, right?!
Saturday, 1/20/18:
I missed last weekend’s long run, but that’s ok! I was excited to get out and do seven miles, but I waited a little too long. About three miles in I pushed my ear warmer up off my ears and had to take off my outer layer. All in all, it was great run and I enjoyed it. I’m struggling a teensy bit with my paces though. I always start out with what I feel is slow and easy to find that I’m running faster than I think I am. By the time I get to the back half of my run, I’ve slowed down a lot and feel more tired than I should. How do I fix this?!
Week 3 Miles: 15.25 Miles
Total Miles: 32.75 Miles
On the blog last week, I shared a brand new total body warm up! I’m the WORST about warming up before a workout, so I posed this Dynamic Total Body Warm Up as much for myself as anyone else. 🙂 Friday held, Five Things Friday #3, a Friday favorites/brain dump style post. Check it out!

I’m not sure what type of running watch or app you use, but I know most of them have settings that will alert you so you can stay within a certain pace range. You could try that especially for the slower paces you want at the beginning of a training run. I’m glad to hear your Dad has been discharged. I know that must be a weight off of you. Thanks for linking!

Sorry to hear about your dad, but I’m glad he’s doing well. What a scare! I’m not training for anything specific this month (off-season), but am desperately trying to survive all the burpees in the challenge I decided to tackle LOL

Great job on you workouts and runs! I missed my long run last weekend but did make it 10 instead of 15. I love yoga class too but I’ve been doing it at home when I can!

I’m so glad to hear your dad is doing better. How scary for all of you.
I always believe I can bank time, so I go out fast, and then try to play catch up later. It’s an awful headgame and I need to get out of the habit of that.
I’m so glad you were able to get in some yoga. I’m sure it did great things for you!
Keep up the hard work! You’re doing great!
