Today, I’m recapping last week’s workouts. Join in as I share my lessons learned and how I’m moving forward. Tell me about your active week in the comments!
Hello and Happy Mother’s Day to all the mamas out there! Especially mine. Love you, Mom! 🙂 Anyway, I hope you all had a great week and a restful weekend! As usual, I’m recapping my activity from the last week. I’d love to hear all about YOURS! Tell me in the comments!
Sunday, 05/06/18:
Another cardio flow day. I love cardio flow and since I haven’t been getting to run as much as I’d like it’s keeping my endurance up. It uses a ton of “animal style” moves that challenge every part of the body and jack up the heart rate. Love it!
Monday, 05/07/18:
Monday was booty day. It was the same exercise pattern as last week, but with heavier weight and an extra round. Yikes! I feel it every time.

Tuesday, 05/08/18:
Tuesday was scheduled as my REST DAY! My 5th graders had a field trip and we pulled away from campus at the unbearably early hour of 6 a.m. and returned about 12 hours later. We headed west to the Guadalupe Mountains National Park (near Pecos, TX) for a canyon hike — 2.3 miles each way! The sun rose very quickly and hit 98 degrees around noon — and we still had to walk back to the bus. Needless to say, with almost 5 miles of walking and all that HEAT it wasn’t really much of a rest day.
Wednesday, 05/09/18:
Because of all the unanticipated activity from the previous day (really, don’t know why I was so surprised lol), I slept in and got in an afternoon workout. Thankfully, it was a short cardio workout, but the use of bands and sliders got me good.
Thursday, 05/10/18:
I opted for another afternoon workout. This one was total body with a serious focus on core. With Turkish sit-ups, kneeling-to-standing clean and press, and lots of other compound moves, I was feeling it! This workout was much easier for me in the afternoon than it is at 5 a.m. though. In fact, I realized this week that MOST of my workouts are easier in the afternoon. That’s got me thinking about switching up my schedule for the last two weeks of school.

Friday, 05/11/18:
One more early morning workout for the week — LEG DAY! I challenged myself to go heavier on the weights this week, but with doing the exercises with the sliders too, it was a totally different kind of challenge! Think single-leg deadlifts on each leg immediately followed by slider hamstring curls. YOWZA!
By the end of the day, I needed my #FEETUPFRIDAY! With the end of school so near, I’ve been busting my rear trying to get caught up on everything.
Saturday, 05/12/18:
We had to go out of town Saturday, so in an effort to save time I moved my cardio from Sunday to Saturday. It was nice to have a short workout on the schedule, but goodness, it was hard! Still love it and so thankful for an endurance style workout in times when I can’t run as much.
That was my week! How was yours? Can you believe we’re so close to summer and Memorial Day Weekend? I cannot — but I’m not complaining! Just a couple of quick “fun” things before I go: Tuesday is the last day to enter the $700 PayPal Cash Giveaway and I’ve opened a NEW giveaway in my Facebook community! The Beachbar giveaway is open through midnight tonight (Sunday) and all you’ve gotta do to enter is join Fit To Do Life and add a friend to the group!
Question: Are you a hiker? Do you have any favorite trails?
I’m linking up with Holly and Wendy for Weekly Wrap!

So, as a teacher myself, I have to ask, Did the students enjoy the hike or did you have some complainers? I can imagine you were exhausted at the end of that day!
Lesley says
I never went hiking in Texas, but I do hike when I visit my parents in the mountains. They have their favorite trails, and it’s a great way to get out and enjoy the weather.
Wendy says
I think there’s a special place in heaven for teachers who go on field trips. When my boys were little, I’d chaperone field trips and by the end of the day, I was ready for bed! The bus ride alone…
I love to hike but around here we don’t have a lot of places to do that. It was really fun last fall when my sister and I went to Palm Springs. We did some hiking in the mountains.
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
I am not a hiker at all but I aspire to be. I love to hike when we travel but not so much on a regular basis. fun way to see a new place!

I’m curious how the students did on that hike? Do they have the energy (because of their young age), or do they get worn out easily (again, because of their age)? I echo Wendy’s comments…..I chaperoned many field trips when our kids were young, and came home from every one of them with a nasty headache (and enormous respect for the teachers who have chosen that career).
Hannah says
I am a hiker, but I’ll stick to the mountains…I hiked at Lake Texoma with my family last May, and thankfully the trail was mostly shaded because otherwise I’m not sure I would have made it a mile. I’ll skip the 98 degrees!

i tried to comment earlier this week and couldn’t. So here’s is my 2nd attempt. LOL
Your field trip seems awfully long and strenuous! Did the kids enjoy hiking that far in the heat? I do enjoy hiking but we don’t have very good or scenic trails close to home. I hope you enjoy your summer break. How will your workouts change during that time? Thanks for linking!
