Today, I’m sharing my intentions and goals for the month of January, along with my guiding word for 2019.
Happy first Friday of January, my friends! I hope the new year is finding you well. I’m enjoying my last week day of Christmas break while sitting on the couch and watching all of the episodes of This Is Us I saved throughout the fall. After traveling for the last 10 days of 2018, that is EXACTLY what I’ve wanted to do. It feels good to finally do it!
Next week, I plan to take some time to reflect on the year that just passed, but for now, I’m jumping into 2019 with my monthly intentions and a word I hope will guide me throughout the coming months.

I love the “fresh start” feeling that January brings. As a teacher, I get that feeling in August as well, but I really try to set new goals and intentions throughout the year. I have a few that I’m using to guide me throughout the month of January.
ONE // Water consumption!
I’ve always struggled to get in enough water, but since becoming pregnant, I’ve struggled more. And yet, it’s more important than it’s ever been! On our trip to Washington, I didn’t drink nearly as much as I should have, especially with air travel. In the month of January, I’ll work to make it a priority — tiny bladder and all day classes be darned!
TWO // Catalog part of my classroom library
I’ve done a bang-up job this school year of preparing my lessons and materials in advance, but I’ve failed at properly getting new books in the hands of my kids in a timely fashion. I was blessed with a BRAND NEW library at the beginning of the year, but that meant hundreds of books to level, label, and organize. After a good head start, I kind of dropped the ball, so I need to take the time this month to jump back in. I still have five or six boxes to sort through.😣
THREE // Read one of my pregnancy books
I feel like my thoughts have been consumed by all things “BABY” since I found out I was pregnant, but at the same time I’ve been a complete procrastinator. I took WAY too long to contact day cares and pediatricians, and I haven’t done nearly enough research. My millennial streak isn’t very wide, but it’s shown itself lately because I’ve been relying on apps and Google for all my questions.🤦🏻♀️ June will come before we know it, so it’s time to put in the work!

My intentions this month are directly connected to my guiding word for 2019 — EMBRACE. My family and I will be going through so many changes this year and I think the best option is simply to embrace them all.
My body is changing — embrace it! This is something I’ve surprisingly done well with. Aside from a few days of being frustrated with clothes not fitting right, I haven’t freaked out over gaining weight or looking different like I worried I might. I hope to continue this throughout 2019, even in the postpartum period.

Baby comes in June, giving me a built-in maternity leave (Yay for summers off!), but there will still be significant schedule and lifestyle changes. Duh. I have to let go of my type-A, control freak tendencies and simply embrace them. Truthfully, I’m looking forward to it — at least right now. But I still welcome any and all advice for surviving parenthood!

Congrats on your baby news! My first baby was due June 24 this past year, and she was born July 3. My husband is a teacher, so we were very lucky to have the whole summer together after she was born, PLUS he got to take his paternity leave later in the year. Embrace is a perfect word for the pregnancy journey. Enjoy!
