These second trimester must-haves helped me make the most of this middle part of pregnancy!
I am sliding into home plate with the second trimester–I hit 27 weeks on Wednesday! Part of me cannot believe how quickly this pregnancy is going by, but another part of me knows these next three months are going to creep by at a snail’s pace. I have really enjoyed the second trimester. I got my energy back, eased into my mostly-regular workout routine, and finally started showing. After returning to school from Christmas break there was no denying that, yep, there’s a baby in there!
With the second trimester came an all-new list of “must-haves” that I, well, had to have at just about all times. Some of the items are fun, while some are just plain necessary! Did you have any second trimester must-haves during your pregnancy?
Second Trimester Must-Haves
Jillian Michaels App: I have talked about JM’s app on the blog a few times. As far as fitness apps go, it’s a preeeetty good one! She has a TON of full programs and they’re all responsive, including the Yeah Baby! program from her pregnancy book, Yeah Baby! I bought the book a few months ago and have thumbed through it, but decided to follow the program through the app. It’s a total body strength focus four days a week, which still allows me to fit in other workouts, like yoga from Studio Tone It Up which saved me in the first trimester!
Yeti Rambler Bottle: I’ve been using this 26 oz. Yeti since the beginning of the school year, but it really became my saving grace during the second trimester. I realized that I needed to increase my water intake (Who am I kidding? I’ve always known this…), so I started setting goals to hit about 80 oz. per day. This made it much easier.

Maternity Workout Clothes: Once I started showing, my regular workout bottoms were not working out for me any longer. I grabbed a few of pairs of leggings from Target (like these!) and some shorts from Amazon and now all my needs are met. I strive to workout six days a week, so with three pairs of leggings and three pairs of shorts I only have to do laundry once a week. Just the way I like it, ha!
Leachco Snoogle: I am a stomach sleeper. As you can imagine, that’s not really an option anymore. While training myself to sleep on my side, the Leachco Snoogle body pillow came in soooo handy! My husband hates it, 🙄 but it helps so much. It keeps me from rolling onto my back and I can also wedge it between my belly and the bed so it’s *almost* like I’m sleeping on my stomach. I highly recommend this pillow!

Body Glide: Recently, the underwire in my bra started to really bug me. I realized I was starting to chafe and even switching bras wasn’t helping right away. Insert a runner’s BFF, Body Glide! I’ve used this for YEARS when it comes to preventing chafing on long runs (even sang it’s praises here!), but it’s really coming in handy right now. I slather it on in the mornings when I’m getting dressed and it keeps my skin protected all day. I like the anti-friction cream too, but prefer the balm most of the time.
SmartyPants Vitamins: My favorite prenatal vitamins have been the SmartyPants Prenatal Complete. They’re gummy, so I’m much less likely to get sick after taking them and they taste good! With L-methylfolate, EPA, and DHA, they really are the most complete prenatal I’ve found. When my Target is out of SmartyPants, I use The Honest Company prenatal, but always go back to SmartyPants. I will probably continue using this throughout breastfeeding as well.
Overall, the second trimester has been such a blast and I’m looking forward to what the third trimester holds! While some of my first trimester faves are still in the rotation (tea, Studio Tone It Up) it’s been fun trying some new things out! I’d love to hear your second tri favorites and your third trimester recommendations!
