Check out these fall must read books full of drama, mystery, and adventure perfect for teachers, parents, young adults.
Earlier this year, I shared my summer reading list and my lofty ambitions to get them all read before heading back to school for the fall. Well, I’m ashamed to say that didn’t happen. Sadly, I don’t think I’m going to meet my reading goal this year. Still… A new season brings a fresh start and new goals. I’ve added some new books to my must-read list, and reserved some from the summer that I know I still want to read!
Currently, I’m finishing up Into the Water by Paula Hawkins. It’s not gripping me the same way The Girl on the Train did, but it’s very good. As I transition back into the “teacher” mindset for the next few months, my literary focus will change just a bit. As I engage in literature circles and novel studies with my students, I’ll be reading many of the same books they’re reading! A couple of those books have made this list, you know, because they’re truly MUST READ for me. 😉 Those books would still be perfect recommendations for your own kiddos, or for you to read together!
4 Must Read Books This Fall
1 // The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo
This book, by the author who wrote Because of Winn Dixie (which I haven’t read — how?!), is one of the first novel studies I’ll tackle with my students this year. It follows Edward, a toy rabbit, who gets separated from his mistress and then takes a “miraculous journey” in the aftermath. I’ve peeked into it a little already and I can tell it’s going to tug at my heartstrings.
2 // The One & Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate
This book is inspired by the true story of Ivan, a gorilla raised in captivity. Ivan is used to his life in a cage and being watched by humans, so he never thinks about life in the jungle. This award winning book is another one I’ll be reading alongside my students this year and I can’t wait to jump into it!
By the way, I teach 4th and 5th grades, if you’re wondering whether these books would be age and/or reading level appropriate for your own children!

3 // The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware
Making a reappearance from my summer reading list, is The Woman in Cabin 10! I love a good thriller and I still want to read this, even though I didn’t get to it during my free time this summer.

4 // Living With a SEAL: 31 Days Training with the Toughest Man on the Planet by Jesse Itzler
This book comes as a recommendation from my brother. My brother who never reads! So I know it must be good. After stumbling across a Navy SEAL, Jesse invites him into his home to live with him and train him. Hilarity ensues!

Same here, girl!

I can’t wait for a long car ride to read DD Ayres latest K-9 Rescue book, Physical Forces. They’re different than the typical romance novels, and I love that they bring the service dog’s perspective into the fold. A nice quick read with just enough danger, mystery, and hunky men.
Jessica says
That sounds like something I would love! I’ll look into it!
