Week 13 of my Run Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Training is complete! Check out the lessons I learned this week and how I’m moving forward.
This week was a busy one. I was out of town for a conference Wednesday to Friday, so I was totally out of my element. I didn’t get in half the running I wanted to, but I tried to stay active while I was gone so that my butt wasn’t completely kicked when I returned to my normal routine. It’s been raining pretty steadily here over the last few days and has cooled things down quite a bit. I’m hoping that kind of weather sticks around a bit so that West Texas can finally start making its way into fall!
Sunday, 9/24/17:
I stretched it out for about 15 minutes with some yoga with Emily DiDonato! My calves were super tight from my 10 miles the day before, so the yoga felt amazing!
Monday, 9/25/17:
I had some miles to fit in, but an afternoon curriculum meeting, so I resorted to the treadmill in the early morning. I managed about 3.75. I tried to squeeze in some upper body work after my run, but there just wasn’t enough time. I didn’t get home from the meeting until 5:45, so I’m glad I fit the run in early!
LEG (and booty🍑) DAY! Lauren Gleisberg released a new challenge as well as a new “glute guide”, so I tried out one of those workouts. Yowza. I also fit in the upper body that I missed on Monday and my triceps were screaming by the end! The combination of these two workouts left me sore until well into Thursday morning.

Wednesday, 9/27/17:
I was at school before 6 a.m. to head out to a professional conference in San Antonio, Texas. It’s about a five hour drive from here, so I spent most of the morning in the car. After getting to the conference, sitting through the afternoon session and then dinner, it turned into an unintentional rest day.
Thursday, 9/28/17:
I tried to find the fitness center so I could get a run it, but my hotel was a labyrinth and I kept getting lost–ha. For that reason, I resorted to some body weight stuff in the room using the Jillian Michaels app on Thursday morning! I followed it up with a really yummy hotel breakfast. We were completely spoiled by the organization putting on this conference!
On a separate, but EXTREMELY IMPORTANT note… I SAW TIM DUNCAN WHILE I WAS IN SAN ANTONIO. Y’all, I’m no pro sports lover (like at all), but I enjoy basketball and if I follow it, I follow the San Antonio Spurs. Tim Duncan was my grandfather’s favorite athlete, as well as my brother’s. Aside from that, he’s a stand up guy. On Thursday, I was touring the school his son attends and there he was. I felt my heart swell up to my throat and panicked before I could think of waving or saying hello or anything. I’ve never been so star struck! I had to tell my brother and mom immediately. Of course, they were filled with jealousy!
Friday, 9/29/17:
I thought very hard about skipping a workout, but with another half day of riding in the car to head back home, I knew I should get some movement in. I slept in later than usual and did another body weight workout with the Jillian Michaels app. So handy! We headed home from San Antonio Friday afternoon exhausted and ready for a weekend of rest. But… I still knew I needed to get a run in on Saturday.

Saturday, 9/30/17:
Truthfully, I was a bit nervous about Saturday’s run after missing two planned training runs during the week. I only had 7 miles scheduled, but I just wasn’t sure how things were going to go! As I started getting dressed, Pippa was wagging her tell and trying to tell me she wanted to join. After being gone three days, she wasn’t going to let me leave by myself again! I decided to bring her along for the first part of the run and play the run/walk/run game a little bit. We did 4 minutes walking and 1 minute running and it was fantastic! I’m not sure if it was the drizzly weather, but it was the first truly good run that I’ve had in a long time. It left me looking forward to October and my last few weeks of training before my race!
Total Miles: 171.65 Miles
Question: Do you have any memorable celebrity and/or athlete sightings?
I’m linking up with HoHo Runs and MissSippi Piddlin for Weekly Wrap! I’m also linking up for Wild Workout Wednesday with Annmarie, Jen, and Nicole!
Sara says
Your pup is so cute!! Glad that you got a nice run in with her this week. Great job finding a way to make things work even when you are busy and traveling!
Jessica says
Thank you! It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it!
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner says
my most recent celebrity meeting was earlier this year when I met Kaitlyn/Bruce Jenner. She was so tall and very funny
Jessica says
How neat!! She is tall, I can tell that just from tv!
Kimberly Hatting says
I hate being stranded in a hotel room…but I hate hotel workout centers even more. That’s why I either venture outside to do an easy run (only a couple miles) along a sidewalk, or I make up my own strength workout in my room (squats, lunges, push-ups, planking, etc.).
Jessica says
Yes, body weight wins when the gym/running isn’t an option!
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
I must be too young on not a big enough Sports fan because I do not know who Tim Duncan is. But I am so star struck when it comes to famous people. I got to meet Kim Lyons when she was doing a boot camp in Santa Monica Beach years ago. I thought that was pretty cool. She was a trainer on the Biggest Loser back in the day.
Jessica says
That would be neat! I would like to meet some of my fitness favorites!
HoHo Runs says
Pippa is adorable! I’m glad you had an enjoyable run with her. We’ve seen NFL players vacationing at Disney after a super bowl win (but you’d have to ask my husband now who they were!). I ran into Melissa and Joan Rivers in FAO Swartz in NYC. I also saw Kevin Kline walking down the street there. Thanks for linking!
Jessica says
Kevin Kline is so funny! I would like to have seen him!
Jessie says
Glad you had a good run with the pup! They make great running companions 🙂 Always up for it!
Way to go fitting in fitness even when you are busy and traveling, that’s not easy to do.
I live in Minneapolis and that is where Josh Hartnett is from…I ran into him at a bar with his buddies…swoon 🙂
Jessica says
I love Josh Hartnett! That would be so cool!
Tricia@MissSippiPiddlin.com says
Awww Pippa missed you! My dog will do that just look at that face how can you not take her! Great job on the workouts this week and thanks for linking with us!
Last year when we were at Disney a friend from my hometown was there too. I saw later where she ran into Luke Bryan at the Animal Kingdom. I didn’t see him but I would have been star struck!
Jessica says
I think I would be too! Luke Bryan is a hottie!
Kimberly G says
Glad that you had a great run with your pup.
So cool that you spotted Tim Duncan!
Jessica says
Love Tim Duncan! He’s the coolest!!
Isabel@primallyimperfect says
Congrats on the good week and finding time to fit workouts in even when you were so busy! (also, your dog is the cutest!!)
Jessica says
Thank you!! I love her to pieces!
Annmarie says
I am the WORST at spotting celebrities! Seriously, the worst. My husband seems to be able to pick them out in a crowd though and is definitely one of those people who will go up to them, hahaha.
Jessica says
I’ve had very few celebrity spotting in my life, so when I do it’s super exciting!!
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
Busy week, indeed! I got to meet David Wright (Met’s 3rd baseman) a few years ago. He’s one of my favorite sports players of all time, so that was pretty darn exciting!
Jessica says
That is exciting!! I love celebrity sightings!
Agness of Fit Travelling says
Doing yoga for stretching seems like a great idea. How many times a week do you practice yoga?
Jessica says
I love doing yoga instead of a long stretch session! I do one full length flow a week with a few shorter ones mixed in throughout the week.
