Today, I’m sharing my goals for January 2018 and letting you in on what’s “currently” going on at the I Am Teacher Fit headquarters!

Hello, friends, and Happy New Year to you all! I hope you were all able to squeeze in some rest and relaxation in the holiday season. It’s now back to the grind for most of us, myself included, so regularly scheduled blog posting begins NOW. And with what else, but a life update and some new #GOALS?!
STARTING // A new semester at school. I had a work day yesterday, but my students are returning today after a two week break. I appreciate resuming classes in the middle of the week. It allows us to get back into the groove without ending the week exhausted from five straight days of hard work.

HOPING // To take some risks in the year of 2018. Last year, my “word of the year” was BALANCE. While the year wasn’t perfect, I achieved a more balanced year than I think I ever have. For 2018, I’m making my focus word RISK. I’m not a risky person in the slightest, but I know that risk encourages growth and change (something I’m learning from my husband). If I want to see fruits from any of my endeavors I know that risks must be taken.
SCHEDULING // ALL the blog posts for 2018! Risk is all well and good, but I’m a person who needs and thrives by a plan. I spent some time at the end of December mapping out a blog plan for a great bit of the year. I’m excited to bring you a lot of great content and if there’s anything you’d like to see, let me know!

READING // The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. I’m late to the game on this one, but that’s ok! Because I want to watch the Hulu series, maybe I’ll be able to finish this in a reasonable amount of time.
PLAYING // The game of half marathon training once again. There is ONE half marathon in my region — the Energy City Half Marathon. When they announced all the West Coast runDisney races were dunzo until further notice, this one flashed on my radar again. After they pushed out a discount code I bit the bullet and started training Monday. My training goals and plans are coming at the end of the week, so keep an eye out!

In 2017 I made a handful goals each month that might or might not be met by four weeks’ end. That kind of defeats the purpose of goal setting if you ask me. For 2018, I plan to take a smarter approach to my goals and focus on two to three goals per month.
ONE // I will focus on smarter nutrition for the month of January through weekly meal planning and meal prepping.
Related: How to Meal Plan Effectively
Toward the end of the year, I felt a lot of discontent in regard to meal planning/prepping. I kind of just stopped doing it — or I would cook my lunches for the week and they would sit in the fridge and go to waste. I do not like doing that, so I’ll be revamping my methods moving forward.
TWO // I will determine a home maintenance cleaning schedule to be followed each week.
Another thing that fell out of balance was keeping the house as clean as I’d like it to be. I know I rest a lot easier when dishes aren’t piled in the sink and dog hair isn’t gathered in the corners of every room. Time to get back to that!
QUESTION: What’s going on in your world this first week of a brand new year? Are you setting goals for the month of January?

Seems like you’ve set some really achievable goals! I admire you for starting half marathon training in January!
Anne says
Ooh, “risk” would be a hard one for me too, but I can definitely see the merit in branching out that way. And that’s exciting to be training for another race – good luck!
Thanks for linking up 🙂

So many of your goals line up with things I keep thinking about. Can you just create a plan that I can steal 🙂 ?
It’s been years since I’ve read Handmaid’s Tail but as a Atwood-lover, I hope you enjoy it as much as I remembered enjoying it!

I need to get some goals in place for this year!

These are all awesome goals! I’m also training for my first half-marathon! I’m running the DC Rock n Roll in March, so a goal of mine is to finish the race strong and continue training smart. Another goal of mine is to continue growing my blog’s readership + social media following without losing myself in the process. It can be so easy to neglect your real life to increase your social presence, so striving to keep that balance while seeing growth in both areas of my life is the name of the game in 2018.

YES! I’m absolutely planning out goals for this month! I love yours!!! I am kicking off the new year training for a sub 2 half marathon in March! Fingers crossed all goes well! I’ll be incorporating more strength training and yoga with my running so i’m hoping that’s a good recipe for success!
I’ve heard that Handmade’s tale is so good! I need to read it/watch it!
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
Great goals! I try to schedule my blog posts a month in advance but I often find myself planning them the day before haha! Hopefully I can get better about that. Happy new year!
Annmarie says
Funny you mentioned setting a schedule for cleaning the house – I was just thinking earlier that I should do the same! Let me know if you have any tips 🙂

I also need to come up with some kind of a weekly cleaning regimen. I don’t have any “outside” help (nor do I have much for “inside” help either LOL), but I need a system. Maybe I need to crack the whip and assume a drill sergeant mentality and force the other house dwellers to be less lazy, huh? Seriously, I had to move 15 pairs of shoes outta the way yesterday so I could unfold the treadmill….and not one pair of those shoes were mine. UGH.

Good luck with the new semester!! I always loved short work weeks when I was teaching, too!! 🙂

These are all really great goals! I’m working on getting some great content out this year too, and a regular, weekly cleaning schedule is on my list this month, too!

Currently working on setting my next few month’s goals and this was really helpful. I’ve too been struggling with the meal prepping part and I so need to get back at it because otherwise I spend too much money dining out.

I love that your word of the year is going to be Risk. I do feel like I’ve gotten better at stepping out of my comfort zone in the past couple years, but I could always do more and try more.
However, I also need to start scheduling ahead as much as I can on the blog. And figuring out to meal plan a bit more.

Hooray for not starting school on a Monday! We homeschooled for 14 years, and we never ever ever started on a Monday. Better to ease back into things! Sounds like you’ve done a great job planning for the new year! Well done, you!

I hope the transition back to work was a smooth one! I started working on Tuesday (thankfully from home) and Mason goes back next Tuesday. I’m not ready for that and will be counting down until summer. That’s awesome that you’ve mapped out a lot of 2018 with a blog plan! Gotta love that. And I am sure it feels so good. I still want to read the Handmaid’s Tale. Are you liking it? You have set some pretty good goals for the year!
Erica @ Coming up Roses says
Risk is a great word for the year! We need to take a few risks in order to achieve our goals! Happy 2018!!!
