Sometimes real life hits you in a real way! Today, let’s take a look at real life lately — unfolded laundry and all.
One thing I always want to do in this space is be honest. It’s so easy to put a spotlight on our best moments — vacations, selfies, and perfectly clean meals — and we should! But it’s important to remember that real life happens and sometimes real life gets in the way of our best laid plans. Here’s a look at real life lately around these parts.
A load of laundry has been laying across a chair in our living room for the last week. Another has been in a basket on top of the dryer for the same amount of time. Our hamper is full. How do we have so many clothes?
I don’t think I’ve made the bed since before we left for Disney.
I don’t remember the last time I vacuumed.

My meal prep game has been seriously lacking, but somehow I have time to make stuffed acorn squash. And then eat it out of a paper bowl.
My clean eating game has been way off target lately and I can’t keep my hands off the sweets.
I have about eight weeks of multiple television shows backed up on the DVR.
I don’t know where to take my fitness goals for now or in the new year. Do I want to build dat booty? Do I want to run another 13.1 miles? Do I want to sit on the couch immobile for the rest of 2017?

I’m usually the queen of getting ready in under 15 minutes. Lately, it takes me 15 minutes just to fix my hair.
On that same note, I like to be at work by 7:30. In the last few weeks I’ve consistently been leaving the house at 7:30. It’s a good thing I live so close to my school.
I have a rule that I only have one cup of coffee with creamer per day (save my calories and carbs), but sometimes I have two.
I think I’ve been reading the same book since August. I can’t focus long enough to read a novel these days (but I’ve finished two with my students!).
I love feeling like I have it all together. I work hard daily and weekly to ensure I’m prepared for whatever life may throw at me. But every now and then it becomes exceedingly clear to me that I don’t (and won’t ever) have it all together. What I do have is a wonderful family, a warm and beautiful home, a job I love, and so much more! And even on the days I just can’t get it together, that’s enough for me.

This post is me. Well, minus the going to work. My mat leave ends this week so it will be me next week. It’s refreshing to read that it’s not just me who hasn’t finished that book (though it’s been so long I can’t even remember which book!), who prides herself on clean eating (but just ate a bowl of ice cream for lunch. Or rather lunch appetizer while the kraft dinner is cooking (but at least that’s for the kids and not me).
