Hey, there, first Sunday of December! You guys know the drill — “Where in the world has 2017 gone?!” Yes, we’re in the final month of the year, so let’s make it a great one! Last week was spent easing back into my school year routine (read: 4:20 a.m. alarm) and ended with an impromptu 5K fun run. Scroll to the end for a {brief} race recap!
Sunday, 11/26/17:
My last day of Thanksgiving break! I really wanted to put up our Christmas tree, but realized that wasn’t going to happen. I procrastinated all the things I needed to do for school, as well as laundry and dishes, so most of the day was spent doing that. I did find time to fit in a chest and back workout and, thereby, procrastinate some more!
Monday, 11/27/17:
That early morning alarm wasn’t welcome. I didn’t feel like I got the greatest night’s sleep because I think my subconscious thought I would oversleep and kept waking me up. I drug myself out of bed just before 4:30 and got in a chest + triceps workout with cardio blasts mixed in. By the time it was over my tris were shaky and I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to hold my arms up to fix my hair!

Tuesday, 11/28/17:
Leg day! I did a traditional weight lifting workout with deadlifts, squats, split squats, and lunges. I was sore by the end of the day.
Wednesday, 11/29/17:
Wednesday was a cardio, abs, and shoulders day. It was much lighter in intensity compared to Monday and Tuesday. Sometimes I have to remind myself that it’s ok to not go 100 percent all out with every single workout! Wednesday, I focused on this.
Thursday, 11/30/17:
Rest day. I had been eyeing a Saturday evening fun run for quite some time, but it was scheduled the same day/time as my school’s faculty Christmas party. Well, I found out this week that none of my buddies were going to the Christmas party, so I decided to go ahead and sign up! I ran over after school for packet pickup. They only had 500 shirts and I was bib number 543. Whah! But I got a free headband instead, so that’s cool.

Friday, 12/1/17:
I started the morning with a back and biceps workout. It featured incline curls and preacher curls — both of which I dislike. But I made it work by remembering I could have coffee after I finished!
Saturday, 12/2/17:
Saturday morning I did a full body workout and then spent the rest of the day laying around for the evening 5K.
The race was scheduled to start at 5:45 and I left my house at 5:20. That was nice.😂 I walked up minutes before they released the kiddos for the 1K and spent a few minutes just standing around. About 5:50 they let 5K and 10K go and we were off!
It got dark literally moments are the start, so I was thankful for volunteers with glowsticks directing us! However, after the 5K and 10K split off I got confused. The announcer had said 10K was being directed by yellow glowsticks and 5K was being directed by pink. I quickly realized he had those flip flopped as I never saw another pink glowstick after we lost the 10K.
To be honest, this was only the second time I’ve run since Wine & Dine, so I just wanted to have fun. I started off slow and just enjoyed the Christmas lights as it got darker and darker. I remember rounding a corner and seeing a lone 10Ker headed back in the other direction to make his second loop. I thought, “Wow. I wish I could run that fast!”
We made a few more turns, I walked through the water stop, and before I knew it, I could see the finish line. I thought to myself, “Oh, I think I’m about to PR.” And I did! I grabbed some water, stretched, and headed home to start Ozark on Netflix with my husband.
It was a somewhat quiet week on the blog while I got back into the swing of school and routine, but some fun stuff still cropped up! Monday, I shared a Holiday Gift Guide for Teachers that will have your bases covered for all your teacher friends, and Friday I shared my December Goals. Wednesday I gave the blog world a peek into Real Life Lately and fessed up to unfolded laundry, perpetual lateness, and general not-with-it-ness. Check it out if you can relate!

What a fun 5k! I don’t really run much in the dark (unless I’m training in the summer and start before sunrise). Congrats on your PR – that’s awesome!! Your ballet flats are so cute!

I love your outfit for the evening 5K – so cute and festive! The only races I’ve done at night were the Rock n Roll LAs Vegas races. They were fun, but I found it hard to fuel properly!

Congrats on your PR at the Jingle Bell race! I hope the racers didn’t get too confused by the erroneous glow stick info. Our local Jingle Bell 5k was this weekend. It was actually my very first 5k but I haven’t run it in years as it conflicts with the half marathon in Panama City Beach. I’d love to be able to run a race just to look at Christmas lights. Thanks for linking!

Congrats on your race and the PR! That’s awesome!

Great job on your PR! I have a local Running with the Elves 5k Race next weekend I am looking forward to.

My holiday run was also called the Jingle Bell Run 😉 I’d rather get a headband than a tshirt, I think you scored on that one!

I also have to remind myself that not every workout can be all out! Not always easy

That race sounds like fun! I have to say, I am really impressed that you get up that early and workout before coffee! I’ve been trying for years to become a morning runner and I just can’t seem to do it. 2018 may be my year though!
