Oh my… What a week it was! Not many things went according to my plan. But it’s in those times I have to remind myself that all things are according to His! Here’s to a topsy-turvy second week of half marathon training!
Sunday, 1/7/18:
I spent the early morning planning out the week ahead and drinking coffee with my husband. Later, I got in some upper body work, as well as a good bit of core with a little bit of cardio (kettle bell swings and tuck jumps) mixed in. Afterwards, I got in some #MealPrepSunday to try and stay good on my January goals!
Monday, 1/8/18:
I thought Monday was going to be a crapshoot, but it actually turned out ok. My morning workout was a battle with about a mile that didn’t go as planned and I called it quits. I wanted to do a workout on YouTube, but my phone and computer weren’t communicating right so I battled that more than I wanted. Whatever. I took some deep breaths, decided to give my nutrition 100 percent for the day, drink a ton of water and try again the afternoon. After school I crushed 2.5 miles and had YouTube workout success. #NeverMissAMonday
Tuesday, 1/9/18:
Tuesday went much more according to my plan. I popped out of bed and hit a total body circuit that featured some KB moves I haven’t done in a while. Oy, gonna be sore from that one! I followed that with a short total body workout using mini bands for hip strength combined with some upper body. I’m working on strengthening my hips and core in hopes of improving my running!

Wednesday, 1/10/18:
AM: I woke up, didn’t know what I felt like doing, and took longer than normal to wake up. After shaking off the sleep, I decided on another day of total body. I hit some arms and abs followed by a short lower body circuit.
PM: I was so excited to do my first tempo run of this training cycle Wednesday afternoon. I knew it would be warm, but I didn’t realize how awfully windy it would be! Shortly before school let out the wind really picked up and decided to pick the dirt up with it. When I was in the car line saying goodbye to my kiddos and the wind blew the gate shut twice I decided the treadmill would have to do.
I know in Texas we don’t have too much to complain about — no -0 temps, no snow, no sidewalks needing shoveled — but we have plenty of other things that can disrupt our efforts. Like mid-January dust storms.
Thursday, 1/11/18:
Rest day (is the best day)!
Friday, 1/12/18:
Friday turned into the crapshoot I thought Monday might be. My husband got called into work around 3 a.m., so slumber was incredibly broken. I drug myself out of bed around 4:45, attempted a workout on Studio Tone It Up with no luck and then did a full body circuit. Symptoms of a head cold emerged throughout the day and I’ve been battling congestion ever since. I’m about 97 percent sure those symptoms were due to the dust storm on Wednesday, the cold front on Thursday, and the fact that I was forced to be outside in it for a time both days.

Saturday, 1/13/18:
Saturday turned into an unintentional rest day. I learned Friday evening that my dad had been in a very serious accident in his work place and had been airlifted to the nearest trauma center — an hour and a half from him and two hours from me. A surgery was scheduled to address his injuries, so my husband and I made the drive over yesterday morning. After a very long day and many prayers and conversations, my dad came through his surgeries very well. He’ll be in recovery for a long time, but through God’s power, love, and grace, he will be ok!
Obviously, my scheduled long run can wait until another day, as that wasn’t my priority yesterday.
Week 2 Miles: 6.5 Miles
Total Miles: 17.5 Miles
It was a busy week on the blog. If you missed anything, get caught up! On Monday, I shared some adorable Activewear on Amazon finds. I started a brand new series on Wednesday — Habits of Longterm Health. Installment #1 is Habits of Longterm Health: Take Charge of You, and finally, on Friday, I ventured into the teacher-y side of I Am Teacher Fit and talked about some common grammar mistakes I see in blogging. Wonder if you’re making them? Check out Writing With Style: Three Grammar Quick Fixes!
Question: How was your week? Any major mishaps?

Ha, a dust storm is definitely something that has never disrupted by runs! Snow and iced sidewalks, yes!
Have a good week!
Deborah @ Confessions of mother runner says
Well dust storms do not sound fun at all! Looks like you got in a pretty solid week of mileage in. Have a good one!
Wendy says
I sure hope your dad recovers fully and quickly! How scary!

Sounds like you had a solid week of training! I’ve never experienced a dust storm before – that would definitely be weird to experience during a run!
I’m so sorry to hear about your dad – how scary! I am glad that the surgery went well and that he is on the mend.
Coco says
Oh, so sorry to hear about your Dad’s accident, but glad his surgery went well. I’ve spent too much time in the ER over the last few months with family members, but at least everyone is on the mend. Glad the rest of your week went pretty well.

Gosh, I’m so sorry to hear about your father! Hope all goes well with his recovery. And dust storms. Well, we certainly have lots of wind, but it’s usually snow getting blown around in Iowa LOL
HoHo Runs says
I hope your Dad is recovering well from his accident and emergency surgery. That is scary stuff! Dust storms are something we don’t have to deal with — or snow and ice, usually — just heat and humidity. I hope you have a less stressful week and can get back to training schedule. Thanks for linking.
Nicole @ fitnessfatale says
Oh man! A dust storm sounds terrible!
Jenn says
I hope your dad is ok! How very stressful!
And ugh to getting sick 🙁 I’m sure that’s the last thing you need right now.
Despite all the hiccups, you had a great week! All that hip and core work is going to serve you well in the future!
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says

Yikes! I hope your dad’s recovery goes well. Definitely a time when other plans get thrown out the window.
Elaine D says
It must have been terrifying to get the call about your dad. But it’s great to hear his surgeries went well and into recovery. Sometimes a week of training just doesn’t go as planned and it’s ok. Here’s to a better week 🙂
Anna @ Piper's Run says
Great week! Glad to hear your Dad will be okay. It’s never easy getting that call.
Agness of Fit Travelling says
