The ninth week of training for the Energy City Half Marathon has come to an end. Check out the lessons learned and how I’m moving forward.
It was a crazy and busy week over in these parts. My spring break begins Friday afternoon and I’m so looking forward to the break! I feel like I’ve been on the go-go-go since January 1 and I’m ready for a little slow down. Even if it’s just temporary! Nonetheless, I tried to stay on top of my health this week with workouts and hitting my macros. See how I did and tell me all about your week in the comments!
Sunday, 2/25/18:
Sunday was for yoga. I did a total body flow and followed it with a short core circuit. Later in the day, my husband and I went to see Black Panther! I don’t think we’d been to a movie since Christmas, so it was nice. Also, I always have room for movie snacks. Popcorn and Raisinets for the win!
Monday, 2/26/18:
AM: Legs! I did a tabata style workout with mini bands and my hips were feeling the burn by the end!! Afterwards, I did a lower body circuit with kettlebells. Love me some kettlebells!!
PM: I decided to do a tempo run because I’d missed it the previous week. I don’t know if it was leg day or Monday or a combination, but I struggled through it. I realize now that I probably should’ve gone easier, but what’s done is done.

Tuesday, 2/27/18:
Tuesday focused a lot on shoulders and I was feeling it by the end of the day! There was some glute accessory work thrown in also and after the previous day, my lower body was pretty much toast too.
Wednesday, 2/28/18:
Wednesday morning I had the best of intentions when I woke up at my regular 4:20 a.m. for my workout. But I ended up taking a seat on the couch instead, which turned into a lie down, which turned into another hour of sleep. I guess I needed the rest.
Wednesday afternoon I made up for it with four afternoon miles with Pippa. Three of those miles were spent on the phone with my husband first and then my mom. That made the miles fly by though I was moving slower than usual. When I got home I did a quick total body workout and then cooked dinner.
Thursday, 3/1/18:
Rest day.

Friday, 3/2/18:
My legs had been tired all week even with no running on Tuesday and resting on Thursday. For that reason, I backed way off the legs on Friday and focused on upper body. I didn’t want to risk jeopardizing the next day’s 10-miler in any way!
Saturday, 3/3/18:
I really saw the fruits of my labors on yesterday’s 10-miler. I just knew I was going to go out and be dreadfully slow, but with a 9:59 average pace, it was the fastest run of my life. Had I raced yesterday, it would’ve been amazing. That left me really hopeful and looking forward to race day in three weeks!
Week 9 Miles: 17.7 Miles
Total Miles: 123.8 Miles
Question: How was your week? Tell me all about it!

It always feels great to bust out a faster than expected run after you’ve been dragging for a few days. Sounds like you’re about ready for the race!

Congrats on that speedy 10 miler! That is definitely a confidence booster for your race! I love your Minnie Mouse mug. I always buy one when visiting Disney. We went to see Star Wars but can’t tell you how long it had been since I’d been to the movies. We used to go ALL THE TIME! We do watch them at home, though. Thanks for linking!

Awesome job on your 10-miler! My 10-miler was so tough in the wind…ugh! I’m hoping I don’t have those conditions for my 10K this coming weekend or my 13.1 next weekend.
