Energy City Half Marathon race week is here, so it’s time to set some goals. Check out my race day goals and how I plan to tackle the course!
Good morning, happy Monday, and happy new week! This week, I’m focusing on proper rest, hydration, and mobility because it’s race week! On Saturday, I’ll be running the Energy City Half Marathon and today I’m here to share my goals with you.
ONE // Run the tangents
I think this is always a goal. Who wants to go to a race and run LONGER than what they’re supposed to? Not me! Because this is a relatively small, local race, I don’t see a lot of bobbing and weaving going on. That keeps me hopeful that running the tangents will not be an issue. I ran the 10K in this series with my mom last year, and while the course will obviously not be the exact same, I mostly know what to expect.
TWO // Beat my current PR
This will be my third half marathon and this time around I really trained for speed. I have made some serious gains this round of training and by the grace of God haven’t felt the intense running burnout I felt in my last cycle. I’m on track to PR, so all that’s left to do is trust my training.

THREE // Start out slow
One thing I always need to focus on is not starting out too fast. The adrenaline rush and excitement of a race gets me, so I have to be very intentional about not jumping the gun.

FOUR // Do my best
While the race will begin before 8 a.m., the high for the day (right now) is 90 degrees. That means it will probably be 75+ by the end of the race, so at the end of the day I just want to do my best in the safest, healthiest way. Again, it’s time to trust my training, make sure I’m properly hydrated, and give glory to God for bringing me to the starting line in the first place. <3
