Habits of longterm health include setting priorities! Figure out what matters to you and make it a priority.
This year, we’ve been talking a lot about setting yourself up for longterm health. Between being proactive, putting forth a plan, and setting SMART goals, we’ve covered a lot of information! Please feel free to refresh yourself (or read for the first time) on Habit 1, Habit 2, and Habit 3 before diving into this, Habit 4 — Prioritizing.
HABITS OF LONGTERM HEALTH REVIEW
Remember that as behaviors followed until almost voluntary, habits are built one day at a time. Don’t expect or pressure yourself to make a hundred changes at once. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with taking it one day at a time!
Setting Priorities
Setting priorities is very closely related to taking charge of you. In the same way one must stop thinking things are happening to them and start making things happen, one should strive to make those things a priority. When it comes to creating a healthy lifestyle, you can and should seek support from those around you, but when it comes to putting in the hard work, no one is going to do it for you.

No one is going to drag you out of bed at 5 a.m. to make sure you don’t miss a workout.
No one is going to stop you from mindlessly popping those chips when you come home after work.
And unless you’re a celebrity or the luckiest person ever, no one is going to make you a squeaky clean dinner when ordering a pizza would be so much easier.

It’s up to you to ensure the effort is put in to continue reaching your goals. Why set a SMART goal if you don’t intend to work toward reaching it? The next time you find yourself saying, “I don’t have time for that,” try saying instead, “It’s not a priority.” I don’t know about you, but that truth kind of stings when I bring it to light.
When you find yourself drifting away from the healthful path you’ve created, start with your mindset. Take a step back, look over your plan and your SMART goals, set new ones if necessary. Recenter yourself, re-prioritize, and remember that tomorrow is a new day!

Great post! You are exactly right – we are all responsible for our own health and fitness. No one else is going to make us do it (even though it would be so much easier if they would!)
Annmarie says
I am all about personal responsibility – no one can make you do or not do anything but you!

Love this. I think the biggest excuse people give is that they don’t have time to achieve a goal, but if you make it a priority, you will MAKE the time.
