I am turning 33 in a couple of weeks, and truth be told, it’s taken me quite some time to develop a skincare routine I can stick with. A lot went into the process, but having kids was the major turning point! I wanted and needed something that felt just a little bit indulgent after putting my babies down at night. Once I found products I like that work for my skin, my nighttime skincare routine became something I look forward to each night!
I usually start my nighttime skincare routine right after I’ve put my girls down for the night. I’ll start with washing my face, head out to watch a little tv with my husband, and then finish up with my creams and serums before we go to bed. Here’s my step-by-step!
My Nighttime Skincare Routine
ONE // Cleanse: I start a cleanser to take off my makeup for the day. I was late to the game when it came to oil cleansers, but I love this one from Beautycounter. I also enjoy their cleansing balm. It feels so indulgent and does a great job of taking my makeup off. I will often do a few swipes of micellar water to get off any lingering eye makeup. I love the tarte version!
TWO // Prep: In the last couple of years I’ve added a toning essence into my routine and this one is my favorite. Cleansing can sometimes be drying, so this helps add a little moisture back before any treatments.
THREE // Treat: After the toning essence dries, I add a hydrating serum on top. Right now I’m only using one treatment because my skin doesn’t need too much, but I see that changing as the years go on, or perhaps even as the weather changes in a few months.
FOUR // Protect: Finally, I add an eye cream and a nighttime moisturizer. Right now, I’m using this Honest eye cream and Countermatch Recovery Sleeping Cream. I love the way the sleeping cream smells! Update: I wrote this post, and then went to shower and get ready for the day to realize my eye cream was empty! Now I’m using this Countertime Ultra Renewal Eye Cream.
A couple of times a week, I’ll switch it up and incorporate a peel for some extra exfoliation, but for the most part, this is the routine I’m sticking to that works for me in the stage of life I’m in now! It’s simple, it’s effective, and I’m not spending an hour standing in front of the sink.
